Carpet weaving has been the finest and the most exquisite form of artistic expression for the Iranians throughout the centuries. To trace the origins of the 2,500 year old Persian carpet industry is to follow the cultural development of one of the greatest civilizations the world has known.

Originally, the Persian carpet was used to serve basic necessities such as simple floor and entrance coverings to protect the nomadic tribesmen from the cold and damp.

The beauty of the carpets attracted wealthy individuals such as kings and noblemen who were always in search of adornments for their fine buildings and symbols to demonstrate their wealth. The designs of Iranian carpets have been passed on from generation to generation. Although some improvisation can be seen from time to time, the general pattern has remained the same over the years.
